Duck and goose species monitoring
Sea Lion Island shlter small local populations of various duck and goose species. We are trying to locale their nests, and estimate their breeding success. We started with the most common coastal species, the steamer duck and the kelp goose, but we are now also trying to estimate numbers of less common ducks, like the crested duck and the yellow billed teal. We are also opportunistically recording the presence of all other bird species, and we are building a dedicated GIS that will help accessing this data, inclusing also data from surveys carried out in the past.
